Megans Law Protecting American Families Everywhere Essay
Meganââ¬â¢s Law: Protecting American Families Everywhere nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; In the summer of 1994 in Hamilton, New Jersey, a small girl by the name of Megan Kanka was raped and murdered by a convicted pedophile, Jesse Timmendequas. The shocking crime rocked not only the small town, but the entire country. A desperate mother told reporters ââ¬Å"Please, please help us find our daughter, sheââ¬â¢s a wonderful girl ... sheââ¬â¢s only seven. Let her come back.â⬠(www.crimelibrary.com) No mother should ever have to beg for her daughterââ¬â¢s life. People thought that everyone had a right to know if a child molester was living in their midst. People are less likely to act a certain way or do things if they know that everyone is keeping watch over almost all their actions (www.nj.gov). nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Like most things there is always a negative aspect. A negative aspect of Meganââ¬â¢s Law is how some people consider it to be unconstitutional. People believe that it is unconstitutional in that the rights of the pedophile to live a normal life have been taken away (Star-Ledger). Many argue that they deserve this violation but when it comes down to it, their rights really are being revoked. If a sex offender who has already served their time in prison and has gotten the help that they needed want to start a new life as a new person, they can not do this because of Meganââ¬â¢s Law. Meganââ¬â¢s Law makes it very hard for the person to try and start over now that everyone knows what they had done and their privacy had been violated (Amoroso). Meganââ¬â¢s Law also only lists people who are of moderate or high risk. . Venture Screening BUS604 June 3, 2012 My business idea is to have light weight compact exercising equipment that can be move from place to place without taking up too much space or being to heavy to carry. My venture will be to promote good and healthy habits that will include a daily work out with a multi- purpose unit. We will write a custom essay sample on Venture Screening or any similar topic only for you Order Now This unit will be sold in the United States and abroad it will have a reasonable price of fifty dollars per unit it will be advertised on infomercials and online (Barringer, Ireland2006). The essential components are the needs of the customer, pricing, and value creation proposition, marketing niche and product mix. If the consumer feels that this machine meets, their needs as far as being easy to carry, store and is very convent for a quick work out;out side of a gym then this venture will be a success. When you start a venture, you have to invest lots of money into it so that you can get your venture off the ground. When you keep your over head low, your product is reasonable and people are aware of your product then your cost out of pocket to start will be returned to you in a short period of time. You will do more than just break even you will start to see profits this will give you an option to afford to maybe invest in a new venture this could be call a venture screening (Davison 2006). A screening of the new venture will identify potential markets abroad competitive advantages are low fixed costs, control over costs and location . An opportunity has been screened for exporting of compact exercising equipment to other countries the venture is promising. New business processes along with new technology will provide exercising equipment to people in many places abroad. The value of each consignment is about one thousand American dollars plus credit cards payments. All orders will be delivered within seven days of placing order and the retailers will have a grace period with the credit card company. To penetrate the market there will be direct mail, telemarketing, and bilingual staff used to reach those who have no knowledge of the product (Davison 2006). The profile for the market is reachable customers who would like more flexibility when choosing to work out. The economics of this venture is low capital and free cash flow this venture will break even in maybe 12 months. This venture has a good fit with long term goals one of those goals will be having a bilingual team within two years of the venture. Good customer service will set my company apart from the strategic differentiation of my competitors also use of technology, pricing, and quality products. The entry strategy is creating consumer awareness that it is possible to quickly receive goods from abroad in small quantities at a great price from companies that are new to the market. The essential questions that need to be ask are sales projections realistic and are customers interested in purchasing this product. The most valuable question is how will staff with good customer service skills be acquired also will the customer be willing to accept the terms of payment? A lot of times when you start a new venture it never occurs to the investor that maybe they are in over there head with start up cost. How will the business maintain until the profits start to come in those profits will help to pay for things that I like to call house whole bills. These have to be paid if your venture is doing well or doing badly in a new venture how will you get the notoriety that you have been looking for. When I start my new venture with my exercising unit, I want people to know just how well my product works. I will do some advertising but mostly I want word of mouth to promote my business because word of mouth is some times quicker and better than paying for lots of advertisements (Davison 2006). Value proposition can be gain by communication to the retailers about their cost, the low inventory turnover they currently have, and how my venture can help them to increase their inventory value proposition. This would reduce the amount of their capital in stock the new venture can improve their value proposition by having agents or distributors in certain areas to penetrate the targeted market. In conclusion, having an idea and putting it into action takes more than just words on paper you have to do your home work and hit the ground running so that you can get recognized then you let your products and good customer service do the rest (Davison 2006). The essential components are the needs of the customer, pricing, and value creation proposition, marketing niche and product mix. A creening of the new venture will identify potential markets abroad competitive advantages are low fixed costs, control over costs and location . Deciding on the best business form out of sole repositories, partnership, ââ¬Å"Câ⬠corporation, and ââ¬Å"Sâ⬠corporation are the first step in building a lucrative company. Once the business organization has been decided, we have to decide on the best financial statement associated with the business. Understanding the business forms such as tax implications, legal implications and accounting implications will provide clarity during the filing for taxes. There are several advantages and disadvantages to sole proprietorship, partnership, ââ¬Å"Câ⬠corporation and ââ¬Å"Sâ⬠corporation. A sole proprietorship is one person alone. He or she ill have unlimited liability for all debts of the business, and the income or loss from the business will be reported on his or her personal income tax return along with all other income and expense he or she normally reports (although it will be on a separate schedule). Although proprietorship avoids the expense of forming a partnership or corporation, many start businesses this way because they are unfamiliar with the other forms of organizations (Business Organization, 2011). All profits and can be re-invested in the business or it can be used by the owner and active aspect is Owner has full liability for entire business operations including all debts or lawsuits against the business. The ownerââ¬â¢s entire personal assets are at risk. There are two types of partnerships. General and Liability both allow unlimited liability for debits of the business. The general partnership, each of the two or more partners will have unlimited liability for the debts of the business. The income and expense is reported on a separate return for tax purposes, but each partner then reports his or her pro-rata share of the profit or loss from the business as one line on is personal tax return (Perez, 2011). Limited seems to more for every partner for themselves based on the amount they are able to input to the business. With a limited partnership, each of the general partners has unlimited liability for the debts of the partnership, but the limited partnerââ¬â¢s exposure to the debts of the partnership is limited to the contribution each has made to the partnership. With certain minor exceptions, the reporting for tax purposes is the same as for a general partnership (Perez, 2011). Partnerships are advantages because they are still easy to establish but o should have a professionally done operating agreement and the disadvantage is employee benefits cannot be deducted from the businesses income. This includes The ââ¬Å"Câ⬠corporation files its own tax return and pays taxes on its insurance. Income. If the corporation distributes some of its earnings in the form of dividends, it does not deduct the dividend in computing its taxes, but the shareholder recipients must pay taxes on those dividends even though the corporation has paid taxes on its earnings. A corporation has some tax benefits such as deductibility of health insurance premiums (Woodruff, 2011). Finally, the ââ¬Å"Sâ⬠corporation is for federal income tax purposes is treated as a partnership for tax purposes, although it is treated as a regular corporation for other purposes. The sole proprietorship has the balance sheet and the income sheet, which is associated with all of the business origination forms. In sole proprietorships, the profit of a business occurs after the owner has taken a reasonable draw for his salary. A sole proprietorship must make enough profit to pay the ownerââ¬â¢s salary and still have enough left to support the growth of the business (Woodruff, 2011). The major difference between for the readership financial statement is the earnings can be allocated based on a stated fractional basis; a ratio of capital investment or on salary and interest allowances, but are still associated with a balance sheet and using the companyââ¬â¢s equity financial statement. The different types of financial statements for corporation are income statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flows, and statement of retained earnings. Their purpose is to provide information on the performance and strength financially to the position of a company. This financial statement is valuable for the users while they go for economic decisions. The consequences associated with each form of business will vary based on the business organization selected. The Jump free essay sample
When one hears the word ââ¬Å"risk,â⬠images of jumping out of airplanes at high speeds and altitudes are naturally conjured up. But falling from the sky is not the only type of risk, nor is it the type of risk involved in my story. ââ¬Å"You have to go to LYS.â⬠My sister had been saying that to me since day one of her return from the Louisiana Youth Seminar. LYS, a leadership seminar for incoming high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, is held each year in Baton Rouge during the third week of July. This information was all I knew of the program when I registered. I did not have the slightest notion of what happens during the week or what it is really all about. But I registered all the same, and it was only after I did that I realized what I had done. I did not know a single soul attending other than my sister (my first year was her third and final year), and I had no idea what to expect. We will write a custom essay sample on The Jump or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page So come July 20th, 2008, with my sunglasses that felt like goggles and my backpack that felt like a parachute, I stepped up into the minivan that looked suspiciously like a jet and took off for Baton Rouge. LYS takes place at Louisiana State University, which is approximately one hour away from my house by car. That first drive to LYS, however, seemed more like five hours. ââ¬Å"Erin, what if I donââ¬â¢t make any friends? What if they donââ¬â¢t like me?â⬠I managed to say this at least ten times before we got to the LSU campus. My sister assured me that I was being unreasonable, telling me that LYS has an atmosphere of community where nobody would judge me. It wasnââ¬â¢t until I arrived that I fully understood what she meant. Our car pulls up to the campus. Immediately we are met by screaming, excited counselors between the ages of eighteen and twenty-two who are running towards our car ready to take my luggage. My heart races as I unfasten my seatbelt and slide the vanââ¬â¢s door open. Itââ¬â¢s time to jump. So I jump. I jump right into the week, deciding that I should put all of myself into it and not hold back. I soon discovered that the Louisiana Youth Seminar is a place that only ââ¬Å"worksâ⬠for someone if they give of their time, efforts, attention, and talents completely. I had already jumped, so I threw myself into the program, allowing myself to get passionate about everything I did. Through the program, my musical, creative, and artistic skills were put to use, and my ability to relate to people was enhanced. I found that LYS is a place that required me to open up with new people as quickly as possible. I found myself thrown into a vast jumble of people who had come from various different backgrounds and locations. By the end of the week, it was not only easier for me to communicate with and open up to people different from me, but these people ended up being some of my closest friends. Over the next three years, LYS gave me a knack for communication, a confidence in myself, and an environment in which I could take risks and try new things without being judged, just as Erin had told me it would. I found myself jumping over and over again: running for ââ¬Å"political office,â⬠trusting brand new people enough to share life stories, stepping up and taking the lead when a leader was needed, singing and giving speeches in front of the whole delegation (as a theatre person, being on stage did help with this one), and striking up conversations with strangers. Through these risks I took, I grew and developed into someone I respect. I learned that my experiences transformed me not into a different person, but into the best version of myself. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦A third year delegate, her spunk and creativity have offered so much to this group and to this program. She loves LYS more than most delegates I know and has invested herself completely in the seminar.â⬠My eyes water as I listen to my counselor on the stage of the LSU Union Ballroom. My newfound friends glance at me with smiles on their faces. ââ¬Å"That is why Iââ¬â¢m happy to announce that our ââ¬ËOutstanding Group Member of the Weekââ¬â¢ is Emily Classen.â⬠Even though it was not a colossal award, I remember how proud of myself I was that day as I went onstage to receive it. That was my last day of LYS, but as my counselor Parker told me that year, ââ¬Å"LYS goes with you everywhere. Itââ¬â¢s up to you to take what youââ¬â¢ve learned at seminar and live it.â⬠This is what I try to do every day: recapture the lessons Iââ¬â¢ve learned and the sense of confidence and respect for myself that I possessed at the seminar. In doing this, I hope to benefit myself, those around me, and the communities in which I am involved. Since I started LYS two summers ago, I find that I make friends more easily and resolve conflicts more efficiently because of my improved communication skills and self-assurance. I am also more willing to take risks because ââ¬Å"putting myself out thereâ⬠at LYS helped me realize that I might have talents for things that I do not know about. This all started with that first jump I took. I was worried about attending LYS due to the fact that nobody I knew was going, but this ended up being the greatest benefit of all. Since nobody at the seminar knew me, I got the chance to make a new first impression on everyone there and be exactly the person I want to be. This opportunity is one that inspires me every day to be that person. On July 23rd, 2010, my feet gently hit the ground and my open parachute falls in a bundle beside me. I have returned from LYS for the last time, trophy in hand. ââ¬Å "Parker, I canââ¬â¢t leave,â⬠I had cried that morning. ââ¬Å"LYS is my favorite thing on Earth. Iââ¬â¢m going to miss it too much. Itââ¬â¢s why I am the person that I am today.â⬠He said to me, ââ¬Å"Emily, LYS didnââ¬â¢t make you that person. You did. You just used LYS to do it.â⬠By taking chances and being open to the lessons that the program has to offer, I truly became the best version of myself. I carry that truth with me and remind myself of my capabilities whenever I am able. By taking the risks I did, I was taught that the limitations I put on myself are very often false. I find it astonishing that I once felt nervous resentment for the seminar and now I have an ââ¬Å"I love LYSâ⬠sticker on the laptop on which I am typing. It just goes to show that I may never know the good that comes from taking a chance and that sometimes to jump is the only way.

English Literature AS Level Courework Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
English Literature AS Level Courework - Essay Example o the fifth act there are multiple paradoxical impressions created by Shakespeare, which makes it very difficult to access the motives and self-awareness of Cleopatra in comparison to a typical tragic hero. After the death of Antony, Cleopatra was left at the mercy of Caesar. Initially Cleopatra resisted to surrender to Caesar, but he leaves Cleopatra with no choice but to succumb to his demands after he says, ââ¬Å"If you apply yourself to our intents, Which towards you are most gentle, you shall find a benefit in this change; but if you seek to lay on me a cruelty, by taking Antonys course, you shall bereave yourselfâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Antony and Cleopatraâ⬠). A true hero fights to his utmost to retain his power until he is completely forced to give up, and in this case Cleopatra to some extent did project that quality. Cleopatra gave up all her wealth to Caesar, but later she was betrayed by her treasurer, who accused of her withholding her assets from Caesar. On Caesarââ¬â¢s inquiry Cleopatra confessed, ââ¬Å"Be it known, that we, the greatest, are misthought, for things that others do; and, when we fall, we answer others merits in our name, are therefore to be pitiedâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Antony and Cleopatraâ⬠). Mentioning this incidence in his book ââ¬Å"Shakespeare the playwrightâ⬠, Victor L. Cahn, Professor of English at Skidmore College, quotes this speech as an impersonation of the true nature of a tragic hero, whose life affects many others under his rule and whose stature appears somewhat from the survival through pain and trials (236).
