Dating back to its humble beginnings in folklore, fables, and storytelling all the way up to the scientific books and dramatic novels of today. Literature is arguably the centerpiece of all mankind. It is useful for record keeping, education, and bringing cultures and societies together. It has allowed us to expand our minds by painting a picture of the beautiful places this world has to offer outside of our corners of the earth. One genre of literature I find especially intriguing is Southern Gothic Literature. It is a subclass of gothic fiction, specifically set†¦show more content†¦The irony of the story is that it is under the directions of the Grandmother that leads the family into a run in with The Misfit, which is what she told her son she would never do. Throughout the trip we are given examples of the racism that was present during this period. The Grandmot her makes multiple racist innuendos such as her observation of the â€Å"cute little pickaninny,† and her statement that â€Å"little niggers in the country don’t have things like we do† (O’Conner 2). During the ride, The Grandmother convinces Bailey to take a detour down an old, dirt road which supposedly leads to an old southern plantation home she once visited. The road leads them deep into the woods where an accident is caused by The Grandmothers cat, which leaves the car upturned and the family stranded. It is then the family encounters The Misfit, whom discovers them stranded as he was passing by. He approaches the family with two young men and shortly after The Grandmother lets out a scream as she realizes him. During their encounter, the readers are given a small glimpse into the deranged mind of The Misfit. It is apparent that he has an upturned moral compass. He gains pleasure from committing crimes and the meanness that goes along with it. Answers: 1.I attended Brisbane court of Australia on 7th April 2017 because it has a trial session which perfectly fits my free time. I like to attend mental I'll court as it has a trail session which interests me a lot. There are cases of patients which are very new and intense and it attracts me to a great extent. The hearing occurred in room number 16 at 12:05 as the trial session began and the defendant Rafael john a 19-year-old boy of Australia is charged with cases of violence and property damage ("Case Type Master Report", 2017). The court of Australia is based according to the Queensland constitution system where the court judge takes a decision by constant research and evaluating results from the reports. Rafael john being charged for criminal offenses was called in court as he fought with the public for 4 consecutive years including damages of cars was started mentally ill as he has tolerated a lot during his school days which really scattered his mental equilibrium and he became ou t of the sink. 2.The defendant Rafael john of Australia is charged with doing criminal activities and contributing violence towards the community this has led to numerous loss to public and property. Rafael john on 2013 was caught by police for fighting and violating rules then in 2014 he was caught by police for damaging property of public (car), later in 2015 and 2017 he was again caught and charged for violence and fight which created hustle and bustle among the public making a tough situation. These situations were really offensive as the people being victimized were innocent because they weren't aware of the fact that Rafael was mentally sick. He had been committing violence and misbehavior since 5 years in Australia and causing the environment scenario ("Federal Courts What They Do", 2017). These offenses were really unacceptable by anyone as being caught by the public for 5 consecutive years and damaging cars were something very annoying to the general public who needed justice towards this but court being very diligent succeeded to bring out the facts of Rafael being psychologically ill. The best part was that Rafael was sent to a psychiatrist for treatment so that he do not again get into drugs and alcohol. This was a great decision by the court as the solution was being taken out rather than sending him to prison which could have made his mental condition even worse. 3.The Brisbane courtroom of people with mental cases who has problems mentally or psychologically was solved in this room where several people were present the court judge, the defendant Rafael john, doctor/psychiatrist khan, audience and I was present who witnessed the decision and preceding of the case (Richardson, 2017). The court judge played a significant role in deciding and bringing out an effective solution to solve the problems which Rafael john created since 5 years from 2013 to 2017 which has also scattered the havoc of Australia in many ways. The court judge carefully and calmly understood Rafael's problems according to his age and generation. As Rafael did damages and violence due to intoxication, drugs, etc. so the judge after evaluating the results of the doctor's reports and consulting with the teachers of his previous school and finding the problems the judge gave out their decisions, therefore, the court judge took great decisions by making his mental status stable and giving him a chance. On the other hand, Rafael's presence and his case gave a good lesson to everyone present in the court as his case has something which talked about drug addiction and its circumstances which are bad ("Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law Brisbane", 2015). 4.The court is situated in Brisbane Australia and the constitution works under Queensland constitution system. The physical condition of the place was very nicely designed and people were really understanding who made out solutions to all the difficulties and problems of Rafael. The lawyers were very smart and efficient to bring out the results by doing Rafael's medical checkup or taking feedback from his school were really helpful in proving Rafael indirectly culprit due to his unintentional deeds ("A Short Guide to Courtrooms", 2017). The psychiatrist was very kind and helpful as they took the responsibility to take care of Rafael and do his mental checkup and treatment so that he could become good again. The accused Rafael was very guilty of his carelessness and mistakes which really made the people sad and angry as violence is really unacceptable but under his case and taking his circumstances into consideration he was started to go for treatment to avoid intoxication, alcohol, d rugs, and etc. The physical conditions of the court room added a lot to the case of Rafael because Queensland constitution system is very different than any other systems of Australia but here in Queensland looking at the cases and giving out decisions are very important as it's their responsibility to give a fair decision ("Roles of Courtroom Participants", 2011). 5.I feel the most important aspect of the courtroom was the trail session which was something essential to watch and understand. So as soon as the courtroom proceeded with the case it witnessed a share silence at the starting because people were shocked and took time to digest the case as a boy named Rafael who is just 19 years old gets into drugs and alcohol intake and creating social as well as mental problems which weren't acceptable at all (DINSMORE, 2017). The evidence was given by the victims along with the lawyers who kept on giving reports and the damages which Rafael did in past years. The preceding were very tricky and logical to understand because cases like these are very carefully and minutely judges taking everything into in mind the defendant's mentality, his past experiences, etc. The procedures were very simple of the courtroom but each procedure had meaning and rules which cannot be broken. These rules were very necessary to be followed to sit in the courtroom (IMME RGUT, 2007). 6.The most interesting thing about the court visit in the case of Rafael was when the school teachers send a report saying that he was also bullied and ragged in his school days which broke him into pieces and made his lose his self-confidence and esteem. He became a guy with no guts to fight back but instead when the bad time scores and the paths become narrower than and as narrow as he chose drugs and alcohol to fight his weakness and take revenge from the common public which wasn't at all good. The court judges and team jury members really understood his problems and gave him a solution so that what wrong things happened to him in past should not affect him in present. As we all know student bullying and ragging is ban and anyone doing so is illegal so the court understood that it wasn't his fault what happened to him in his school as he was very small that time. When one after another witness came with evidence and reports along them to prove Rafael's guilty was most interesting to see how he faced this tough situation and people were happy to see him accept his faults and decision to leave all his bad habits and become a gentleman in coming days were the highlight and most interesting part of the case visit. It was even more interesting when after evidence were given to judge and then judge reads it out and ask counter questions that moment makes everyone spell bound and we get goosebumps which were very critical situation I suppose. 7.The court of Queensland constitution system Brisbane Australia has a good rule of law which is trial session it gives a small go through practice and makes everything work under more professionalism these sessions happen before the final session of the court, when it comes to mental illness and a case related to it then constant research and practice is required to counter answer or attack the opponent is necessary. In the case of Rafael, the evidence and reports provided were true and honest which was followed by the rule of law of the court (Waldron, 2010). The court also has a rule that they cannot put an innocent person into prison similarly Rafael being not innocent as he committed crime by creating violence and damages to properties unintentional because his mentally sick and needs treatment so he can become a better person in future and support his family being so young he has all his life left which he really needed to become a good person with golden heart, but he needs to quit drinking and taking drugs which play an integral part in making him a good person. Coffee Growing Regions Every morning, millions of people around the world enjoy a cup of coffee to get a jump start on their day. In doing so, they may not be aware of the specific locations that produced the beans used in their latte or black coffee. Top Coffee Growing and Exporting Regions of the World Generally, there are three primary coffee growing and exporting areas throughout the world and all are in the equatorial region. The specific areas are Central and South America, Africa and the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. National Geographic calls this area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn the Bean Belt as nearly all of the commercially grown coffee in the world comes out of these regions. These are the supreme growing areas because the best beans produced are those grown at high altitudes, in a moist, tropical climate, with rich soils and temperatures around 70 °F (21 °C) all of which the tropics have to offer. Similar to fine wine growing regions, however, there are variations on each of the three different coffee growing regions as well, which affects the overall flavor of the coffee. This makes each type of coffee distinct to its particular region and explains why Starbucks says, Geography is a flavor, when describing the different growing regions around the world. Central and South America Central and South America produce the most coffee out of the three growing locations, with Brazil and Colombia leading the way. Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama also play a role here. In terms of flavor, these coffees are considered mild, medium bodied, and aromatic. Colombia is the most well-known coffee producing country and is unique because of its exceptionally rugged landscape. However, this allows small family farms to produce the coffee and, as a result, it is consistently ranked well. Colombian Supremo is the highest grade. Waiting Times in Out-patient Department (OPD) REVIEW OF LITERATURE The review of literature on waiting time in OPD setting is presented under following headings 1) Waiting time in hospitals 2) Patient satisfaction about waiting time and service availed in hospitals Waiting time in the hospitals VijayaBharat et al, 2011 conducted a cross sectional study to compute the waiting time in a crowded out-patient department (OPD) of the Cardiology section of Tata Main Hospital, Jamshedpur. The results shows that the mean waiting time was 58.6 minutes for each patients and 8.7% of the patients were seen within 30 minutes of their arrival in the hospital. The study recommended that in order to reduce overcrowding of patients, the type of cases, their contact time and the frequency of visits needed to be identified. Efficiency was improved by increasing the availability of doctors and introduction of practice guidelines. Rafat Mohebbifar et al (2013) conducted a descriptive study in an educational and learning hospitals affiliated to the University of Ghazvin, Iran to analyse the outpatient waiting time in different hospital clinics. This study indicates that cellular phones is a huge distraction to one’s attention especially on school hours. Thus, some schools prohibits the use and bringing their cellphones at school. Some of them use phones to call examiners and other students who may have access to examination papers. This is common during national, regional and district examinations. This causes panic and confusion among students because they get varying information from different sources and on many occasions, focus on revising the wrong way, thus failing. Conceptual Framework This study is anchored with the theory that those secondary students’ frequency of usage of electronic gadgets of the said sections has an effect on each of their academic performances. The Breakfast Club This paper is an analysis of five dissimilar teenagers representing a cross-section of middle class high school students in the suburbs. The students meet each other for the first time during a Saturday morning detention session. Each student arrived to the school by different means, which is a precursor to determining the type of individual each one is. The group is comprised of a â€Å"princess†, an â€Å"athlete†, a â€Å"brain†, a â€Å"criminal†, and a â€Å"basket case†. These are the roles the students play during the week. Because of typical stereotypes and status levels, at the onset, the students don’t want anything to do each other at the beginning of the detention session. However, once confronted by the controlling principal and realizing they have a whole day to spend together, the students begin to interact. Once the students start communicating with each other, they realize that they are more alike than unlike. Each one of them has their own issues they are dealing with, they each long for self-acceptance; they all fight against peer pressure; they all desire parental approval. Eventually through the course of the day, they break through the barriers and begin to understand each other and accept each other as well as themselves. The students eventually develop a group identity and call themselves, â€Å"The Breakfast Club. † Claire is the â€Å"princess†; an upper-class, popular prom queen who was punished with detention after she ditched classes to go shopping. His father doesn’t care what Andrew wants in life, he just wants him to win all of his wrestling matches. Brian the â€Å"nerd† is a straight – A student who struggles with expectations of high grades. His parents seem to push him to do very well in school. However, he doesn’t have any confidence in himself and relies upon his success in school to motivate him. His self confidence was crushed when he received a failing grade in shop class. He was sent to detention because a teacher found a gun in his locker which he was going to use to kill himself; however, it wouldn’t have worked because it was a flare gun. Brian was dropped off to the school by one of his parents and his younger sister. He was told to get his homework done while in detention. Lastly, Allison the â€Å"kook† is an introvert who is ignored by her peers. She is a very quiet girl hardly ever speaking, which makes it difficult for people to understand her. When she does speak, she usually does so in self defense. She longs for attention, in order to receive it; she acts like a mentally unstable individual. She suffers from boredom and is very reserved. She shocked the group when she emptied her purse which held nothing but useless items in an attempt to gain attention from the others at the beginning of the detention session. Allison was dropped off to the school, but you can’t tell by who as the person drives off before any words are exchanged. She states that she did nothing wrong to get sent to detention. She displays very peculiar behavior during the detention session. At the onset of the detention session, each student’s status is conveyed by their existing peer social status in school. They form bonds, with whom they feel most comfortable with, for example, Claire and Andrew immediately sit down next to each other and begin exchanging conversation about the friends they have in common within the â€Å"popular† crowd that they are a part of. Brian is next in line in the school social status scene because of his intelligence but he is still considered to be a geek by his peers. In contrast, Allison and Bender are at the bottom of the school social scene. As the morning detention session progresses, each member of the group surrenders their previous roles as they assume new positions within the group. Bender, who usually has a low-status position, assumes a leadership role because of his expertise with detention. He is on a first name basis with the janitor and Mr. Vernon, the principal. Mr. Vernon displays a tough outer shell but seems to fear Bender. Bender is clearly the dominating force in the group. His rebellious personality is displayed when he breaks the established rules and moves from his seat after being told not to. He also tore up a library book and removed a screw from one of the library doors so it couldn’t stay open in order for Mr. Vernon to keep an eye on them. When Mr. Vernon questioned the group as to why the door is closed and wouldn’t stay open the group covered up for him. This behavior clearly displays Bender’s disregard for authority. Instead of being condemned by his peers, Bender’s questions and actions are valued within the group. He leaves the session with a new found respect for his new friends as well as an attraction to Claire whom he had constantly made fun of for being a snob throughout the detention session. He also dropped the tough guy persona and accepted himself as someone who was good in his own way. Claire and Andrew also go against their normal high school behaviors during the session. Andrew no longer appears to play the macho athlete role and actually cries in front of the others as he describes how his father has pressured him to be someone he doesn’t want to be. He expressed how at times he wished for his knee to give out so he wouldn’t be able to wrestle anymore. He finally comes to realize that he doesn’t need to be the man his father expects him to be and that his life is his own to determine and not what his father desires. It is clear that he that he has broken from the grips of his father when he leaves the detention session partnered with Allison. Allison seems to be the epitome of defiance towards his father's law to stay on course and choosing his own path from now on. Claire appears to be very conceited and often asks the group â€Å"Do you know how popular I am? Everyone at this school loves me. † Looking at her from the others perspective, she appears to be very self-centered and more important than the others. Although Claire leads the group to believe she had been sexually active due to peer pressure, she ultimately admitted to the group that she is still a virgin. Allison actually tricked her by lying and being deviant, having Claire to admit she was a virgin. Allison then expressed to the group that being sexually active is actually a double edged sword in their social setting because if a girl admits to being sexually active, she is considered to be a slut while if she denies being sexually active she is considered a prude. Her observation demonstrates she isn’t exactly who the group perceives her to be. Eventually the group allows Claire to see that there is much more to life than being popular in school. On the surface, Brian appears to be submissive; however, the traditional geek ends up asking bold questions and seems to become more secure than his new-found friends. Throughout the session, Brian seems to follow along with whatever his peers are doing while at the same time reminding them that there isn’t supposed to be any â€Å"monkey business. † He actually goes against his normal behavior and along with Andrew and Claire partakes in smoking marijuana with Bender. The group views Brian as their most intelligent member and therefore, they encourage him to write their required 1000 word detention essays. This opportunity allows him to have a bit of power within the group. Through the peer discussions, it becomes apparent that Brian and his parents have required him take on more than he can handle which drove him to his breaking point. Through the relationship with his newfound friends, Brian is able to release the load and the perception of himself being an academic over achiever. He leaves much more confident than when he came and is determined to let go of his past failure. Allison is very quiet during the detention session; her mode of communication was squealing for the first half of the session. The others see her as an outcast and her strange behavior while at detention confirms their perception. During lunch, she takes a sandwich out of her bag, removes the meat, and puts cereal and sugar in its place. She appears to be satisfied with the lunch that the others find disturbing. Until this point, the other students had barely noticed her presence in the room. She continues performing random acts throughout the movie. It is clear that she craves attention both positive and negative and this is her way of obtaining it. While speaking to Andrew, she confides that the attention that she receives at school is much more than she will ever receive at home. She finds her life at home unsatisfying and expresses that her parents don’t give her any attention. Allison’s parents consider her an outcast. She leaves the school well respected by Andrew who seems to have developed a liking to her. She realizes that she should be respected by all as long as she acts as though she wanted the respect she deserved. The janitor â€Å"Carl† is the eyes and ears of the school. He seems to know the students at the school very well and tells Mr. Vernon â€Å"Someday, these kids are gonna take care of me,† Mr. Vernon told him â€Å"don’t count on it. It appears as though Carl previously attended the school. He shows much respect to the students and seems to be able to relate to them and their issues. Mr. Vernon is the school principal who dislikes Bender because he doesn’t have any respect for authority. He is very uptight and tries to get the students in trouble. It appears from his behavior that he thrives in h is position of power; one may safely assume that when he was the age of the students, he probably wasn’t popular or well liked by his peers. Carl caught Vernon reading the private school files; he then blackmails him to keep quiet. He eventually bonded with Carl and declares that he has various fears about the current generation. The group went through the predictable developmental stages including forming, storming, norming and performing phases. The group was formed because each of the students broke a school rule. While in this stage, the students are becoming oriented with each other and learning more about the group. The rules and procedures are being established. During the storming stage, conflicts begin to arise and social tension is apparent. For example, Claire expressed that she doesn’t â€Å"belong here. Bender continuously antagonizes Claire. Bender and Andrew have shouting matches almost bringing them to blows. Also, Allison had a strange outburst during Claire’s disclosure about her parents. The principle tries to set clear expectations and norms by telling the students that there is to be no moving, no talking, and no monkey business while in detention. However, in his attempt to establish the norms; the results prove to be unsuccessful because the group does not agree to Mr. Vernon’s rules. Instead, the students become quite rebellious and show disrespect for authority. Most of this behavior is exhibited by Bender who uses his status, power, and leadership within the group. In regards to performing, the group eventually accomplishes its task which was to write the 1000 word essay with Brian as the leader of this undertaking. The group also achieves other goals such as killing eight hours of detention while remaining free of boredom. They learned about each other and experienced and new found respect for through self-disclosures. They also rebelled against the established norms with each other. By the end of the day, they had established their own cohesive group and learned to look past their stereotypes of each other. However, they question whether or not they will remain as friends come Monday morning. I believe that this movie is a true depiction of high school life in the suburbs, as each group of students has stereotypes about the other groups amongst their peers. It is up to us the individuals to break down the barriers that prevent us from appreciating each others qualities and learn not to criticize and/or condemn our peers.
